Happy New Year! Here’s some things to add to your watch list

So we are here again, new year new me and all that. I think after going into 2021 with expectations of returning normality and good things happening, I’ve decided to approach 2022 slightly differently. 2022 is the year for no expectations for me. I want to take each day as it comes, celebrate the small wins more and be a bit kinder to myself. If, in a year’s time, I can look back and say I’ve done that, then 2022 would be the year to be happy to reflect on.

I have just started a new job (I know, again), and I got through my first week so that’s the first instance of a little ‘yay for me’ moment. I know I know, I’m not changing the world, but I’m making very (very!) small steps to being a little bit more positive.

Anyway – there’s my little insight for 2022, now onto what I’ve been watching so far this year and what I really recommend (definitely not an expert but I liked them).

Lets start with some classic reality TV –

Below Deck – it’s a must for any reality TV fan! Essentially it’s a group of twenty somethings working on a fancy yacht serving mega rich people. Now I know it doesn’t sound like the most interesting thing ever, BUT THE DRAMA. I struggle to concentrate for long periods of times with the continuing depression and anxiety so things like this are a perfect background watch.  (Amazon prime video)

(Oh and also there’s a below deck Mediterranean so there’s LOADS to watch)

Cheer – so firstly, I know I’m late to the game on this one but season 2 is about to come out and so I’m going to ‘cheer’ about this one (get it.. cheer…) A reality show that follows an American cheerleading squad at a junior college. It combines drama, a very extra cast and some pretty amazing stunts. Again, it’s an easy watch but something to get into! (Netflix)

Selling Sunset – If you haven’t watched this yet then you really need to. If not just to look at fancy houses in LA and think about how you wouldn’t have the kitchen that way but that’s alright because your spare 20 million is currently non existent.

Films

Tick Tick Boom – For musicals fans this is an absolute must. It is the best film I have watched in a while. Like I said, I tend to struggle with watching new things, I end up re watching films I’ve seen 10 times before. BUT, I heard about Andrew Garfield in this and I had to see it. It’s based on the creator of Rent and the songs, the true story and the acting are all both grippingly dramatic, and hilariously funny.

She’s the Man – Ok so I know this one has been out for years but it has just been put on Netflix so I had to rewatch obviously (and because to be honest I have barely watched any films I just had to put this one on the list). I mean who doesn’t love a classic bout of Channing Tatum and Amanda Bynes.

Series

Annika – A police crime series that follows different storylines each episode, it is not just a standard look into murders but has a running commentary of puns and quips from the main character breaking the fourth wall. It was different but I’m really hoping they bring out another series..

My Lover My Killer – This docuseries follows different victims over 6 episodes and if you like documentaries then I recommend this one. It can get dark but its a gripping retrospective look from the victims family and friends.

I’ve got Stay Close, Don’t Look Up and Dragons Den on my list to watch, sometimes I think it might be a full time job juggling everything I want to watch, the struggle!

Anyway, if you have anything you want to add to my list then do let me know, until then, I’ll just watch friends for the 900th time.

Happy 2022!
